Are you looking for the best gifts for new parents? I’ve got ideas for you.
Some of these ideas are splurges, and some are more practical. You might create a small basket with several or just grab your favorite option. Whatever you decide, you can’t go wrong letting new parents know that you care about them.
Give the gift of sleep
Sleep can be a game-changer for new parents. My newborn class or First Five Months Bundle let you GIFT sleep! You can purchase a gift certificate and have it delivered electronically or print it out and hand it to the new parents yourself.
Food
Not having to cook dinner is always a good gift in my book, but I also love to bring easily forgotten meals and snacks. Consider delivering frozen breakfast burritos, easy-to-grab snacks, or things that they can use for a simple lunch. Does the family have an older child? Bring toddler-friendly lunches or a gift certificate to somewhere like Little Spoon.
If cooking isn’t your thing, a gift certificate for food delivery (UberEats, Door Dash, favorite restaurants) or grocery delivery (like Shipt) can be a lifesaver for new parents.
Hint: If you are bringing a home-cooked meal, bring something you can freeze and offer to leave it in a cooler on the porch. Sometimes new parents need food but just aren’t up for visitors!
Self-Care Items
Most new parents could also use a little pampering. A new blanket, a soothing candle, or a favorite treat can go a long way. I always loved a new lightly scented lotion or bath product when I had babies. Chelsey Wang makes my favorite products for both babies and mamas.
You might even be ready to splurge and get the new parents a massage or gift certificate for a pedicure. Be sure to consider child care or how they might be able to make time to sneak away while caring for their new baby.
New loungewear
New parents often spend a lot of time at home cozied up feeding babies. Grab some new pajamas, a robe, or cozy slippers and help a new mama feel extra comfortable while she’s on the sofa snuggling that baby.
Hint: If you are grabbing pajamas for a nursing mama, be sure that they are nursing friendly so that she can feed easily.
Coffee or Tea
I love a good mug, and there was just something extra special about drinking out of a mug that declared my new mom status. I also love this one for daddies and this one for the great message that spoke to my heart as a new mom. Add a favorite blend of coffee or tea or an encouraging book like this one, and it makes the cutest little basket to get those mornings started right.
Want to add a little something extra? These mug warmers are the perfect addition if the new parents need a quick way to reheat. Want to splurge? These Ember mugs keep your hot drink at the perfect temperature all morning.
Baby Essentials
Instead of another cute outfit, or maybe in addition to, put together some essential baby supplies. Diapers, wipes, diaper cream, burp cloths…all items that new parents can never have enough of.
Want something that they might not have splurged on themselves? Consider a water warmer for formula feeding families or make a breastfeeding basket full of supplies for a nursing mom.
Extras
- I love my Mama necklace and so many Moms love these sweet bracelets personalized with their baby’s name.
- I’ve heard so many say that their favorite gift was a gift certificate for a cleaning service so that they could focus on themselves and their baby instead of the house.
- Do the parents have a toddler or older sibling at home? Prep or purchase some activities to keep their little one busy while they take care of the baby.
- When in doubt, gift cards are always a hit.
