You have a lot of choices when it comes to the best jogging stroller, probably too many. Couldn’t someone just make one perfect multi-use stroller? Well no, but we all sure wish they would have made it a little easier on us. On this edition of how the heck do I pick my stroller, we will be taking a look at the very best jogging strollers.
I will admit that jogging strollers really are my favorite (in fact, I used one as my main stroller for many years). Plus, they encourage you to exercise or at least feel better about yourself because you have the equipment to do so if your kiddo ever stops exhausting you. They also are easy to maneuver over any terrain, making them convenient for a variety of situations. Basically what I am getting at is that a jogging stroller is well worth having around.
We know how frustrating it can be to walk up and down the aisles contemplating the pros and cons of every stroller. Stick with us and continue reading to find out exactly what to look for in the best jogging stroller.
Best Jogging Stroller for running & everyday life!
Why a Jogger
The first thing you have to think about is if a jogger is even the right choice for your family. You want to choose a stroller that you will get maximum use out of. Jogger strollers have three large wheels as opposed to the regular four wheels. This means whether running or walking, the jogger will be a smooth ride on any type of ground. One of the things I love about a jogger is how easily they roll whether you are walking or jogging.
This list might look a little familiar if you’ve read our double jogging stroller article. That’s because one seat or two, joggers pretty much have the same requirements. Everything below is something you will want to consider when picking out your new stroller.
Be sure to pay attention to the weight and the width of the strollers when purchasing because they’re going to affect you big time when pushing. One of the best things about jogging strollers is how narrow they can be making them capable of squeezing through any aisles and doorways. Make sure not to forfeit this feature!
If you’re an avid runner (or planning on becoming one, yay!) you’re going to want a fixed front wheel to help you stay on course. For the rest of us, there’s plenty of options for a crossover front wheel, which will be able to swivel making it way easier to maneuver when you aren’t running. You might want to test both by walking around with them and making lots of turns. They do stroll different, so just do with what feels most right to you.
Buy Used/Buy with the Intent to Sell
Let’s just face it, good jogging strollers tend to be pricey. We’re not saying you have to spend $800, but sometimes it’s worth the investment to spend between $200-$500. Buying a used stroller can totally cut your costs down and with little hacks like wheel replacements and removing the seats to be washed it’ll be pretty much as good as new. If you’re just dying for a shiny new double jogging stroller go for it, and keep in mind you can resell when your kiddos outgrow it.
Packing it Up
Where is the jogging stroller going to be stored in your house and what does your trunk space look like for transporting? These are really important things to consider because if your stroller is impossibly difficult to get in and out you probably won’t ever use it. When Jogging strollers first came out they used to be large and not very compact when you folded them. Well, things have certainly changed as some can fold up quite nice.Â
Whether you’re using this stroller purely for running or making it your everyday stroller, the accessories are going to be important. Think about cup holders, storage, and sun shades for you and the kiddo.Â
The Minor Details can be Major
Don’t forget about the minor details of your running stroller. Does it have an adjustable handlebar, do you prefer a foot brake or a hand brake. Does it have a storage basket underneath and a child tray or a parent tray. These minor things are all stuff you should consider before purchasing your new stroller.
Check with your Doctor
How old does your baby actually need to be to head out on a run with you? It’s a highly disputed topic with recommendations of your baby being anything from 4-9 months. I think it’s just best to check with your pediatrician as they know your baby best and can recommend the right age.
The Best of the Best
Once you have decided which essentials are most important to you for the best jogging stroller, this is your next stop. We’ve brought together some of the best jogging strollers all right here so by the time you make it to the store, your mind just might be made up already.
Thule Urban Glide 2– My Current Obsession!
This is the newest addition to our list and my personal favorite. It is so sleek that I love taking it around anywhere. It is lightweight enough to be pushed and maneuvered with one hand. The rear wheels are 16″ so the stroller glides nicely. Plus, it is super easy to fold (you can do it with one hand), then pack it up and throw in the back of your car. This model is also available in a double jogger as well.
Here are some of the other amazing features:
- One-handed, compact fold for easy storage and transportation.
- Integrated twist hand brake provides speed control on hilly terrain.
- Reclining seat for when your little one needs a nap. But not only that, the seats are very easy to clean, so your stroller looks like new for a while.
- Secure and comfortable seat with padded five-point harness
- Protective UPF 50+ canopy.
- Peekaboo window with magnetic closure. I actually love this feature so much, cause the velcro versions always wear out after a short time.
Joovy Zoom 360
This is the “has it all” stroller. It’s got the whole package of everything you could want or need in a jogger at a very reasonable price. It is a terrific stroller for running and is really open in the back meaning no matter what you’re running stride, you shouldn’t have to change it a bit while pushing. It’s easy to move around and the ride will be smooth and comfy for your child. There are a good-sized storage bin and cup holders for the adult, as well as pockets inside the seat for snacks or toys.
Bob Revolution Flex
Your little one will thank you for this super spacious, comfy seat and a sunshade that will keep them well protected. You will love how easy it glides over any surface. You can recline the seat with just one hand. The handlebar is easily adjustable, meaning just about anyone spending time with your child can find the perfect handlebar height.
Baby Trend Expedition Jogger
While this might not be the best choice for marathon runners, most of us mamas aren’t that. It’s a superb choice for just about anything else. The front wheel does swivel, making it really easy to maneuver around. It weighs 26 lbs making it pretty easy to lift and store when it’s folded up. As for everyday use, there’s one tray for mom and another for baby. There’s plenty of storage under the seat and a decent sunshade. Plus, the seat reclines so you can say hello to nap time.
Graco FastAction Fold Jogger
Folding and unfolding is by far one of the most frustrating things about strollers. Graco made this stroller with this in mind and kept things a little more simple. That being said, do keep in mind that this stroller is a little heavier than most at 30 lbs. It makes up for this by being able to stand upright on its own. Some other beneficial features of the Graco FastAction are the large storage container and that you can click an infant car seat in!
